Soldier's Quilts

Healing Patches

Quilts for Wounded Soldiers

For the third year, members of the Pine Needle Quilters have made lap quilts to be donated to wounded soldiers. At each monthly meeting, members displayed the soldier quilts they had completed that month during our regular "Show 'N Tell" session. Please tell Laurie Schoenebeck the length of your quilt so that she may keep a tally. Bring all finished quilts to the regular meeting on May 18th.

On Sunday, May 24 (2009), we will march in the Mountain Third Annual Memorial Weekend Parade. We will be carrying all the soldier quilts in a successive chain. Each month on this page, we have notee the total feet of quilts we have made for the soldiers. This has become an impressive chain of quilts.

June 5 update: What a great success this project was!  Thank you to everyone who donated quilts, or helped in anyway with this project.  Just to let you know that the quilting ladies from Tabor Lutheran also gave a quilt to us, so that brought our count up one more quilt to 66!  Also received a nice cash donation from Ken and Nancy Bowman to help with shipping costs.  How thoughtful.
I did receive a phone call from the chaplain at the Army Medical Center at Ft. Hood.  He was excited about the quilts, and said that they (the quilts) were all resting comfortably in an empty office space, after their long journey.  He was very appreciative and thankful for the gift from our group.  He thought that it was really neat that we marched them through town in the parade and showed them after the Memorial Day cemetery service.
I am proud to be part of the Pine Needle Quilters.
Your quilting friend,
Laurie
