President's Challenge #1

May, 2005

For the next twelve months, I am challenging each and every lady in this guild to produce at least one baby quilt to be donated to area hospitals via the Pine Needle Quilters. As you finish a baby quilt, give them to me. I will present a donation of a dozen at a time. To begin, I will make the round of our area hospitals, Oconto Falls, Shawano and Antigo. If you want some of the baby quilts to go to another worthy organization, give me the name and location.

I have been told the baby crib mattresses at Oconto Falls Hospital measure 17" x 27". These quilts will be used with the baby at the hospital AND will be sent home with the baby. They can be used as car seat quilts. Sizes can be as small as 36” square (buggy blanket or receiving blanket) to 45” by 54” for a crib quilt (or whatever your baby quilt pattern specifies).

I have asked Rita to put a page on our website to record the progress of this challenge. For this year I am setting a goal of 75 quilts. Rita will put a thermometer on the website with a top measurement of 75; regularly I will tell her how many more baby quilts, and she will color in our thermometer. It will be impressive!

January, 2006

As of January 1 st, there have been 58 baby quilts distributed with only 17 left to meet the challenge of 75.

They have been distributed as follows:

  • 9 -- Milwaukee Children's Hospital
  • 12 - Langlade Memorial Hospital Obstetrics
  • 12 - Oconto Falls OB-GYN
  • 12 - Shawano Hospital Obstetrics
  • 13 - Green Bay Pediatric Oncology

Thank you to all who have donated their time and talent to put a smile on so many children’s faces. I will look forward to receiving the last 17 to have a successful, completed challenge.
